Forever Entertainment just signed a deal with Square Enix to produce multiple remakes of the company’s Japanese Intellectual Properties (IPs). Currently we don’t know exactly what content the deal was for but do know that the focus will be on upscaling graphics and gameplay with not so much emphasis on a complete overhaul in the style of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The Polish company has most recently completed the Panzer Dragoon remaster which just came out on the Switch. Not much is known about the deal except that it will include several games from the same brand. This has led some people to believe that the deal is to remaster a series. Forever Entertainment and Square Enix will also split the revenue from these games.
This raises a lot of questions regarding which IPs the deal could have been made for. There has been some speculation that the company could have signed on to produce the long-awaited Chrono series remasters. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross remain two of a handful of iconic RPGs which have not made their way onto modern consoles (looking at you too, Mother 3). Another strong possibility would be remakes of Final Fantasy IV, FFV, and FFVI – perhaps in the style of Link’s Awakening or the new Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Remakes.
Regardless of which games Forever Entertainment has signed a deal to produce, there is one thing we know for sure. In a few years we will be getting a new Square Enix remake. What games would you like to see remastered and brought to modern consoles? Leave a comment below to let us know what you think about the deal.
